Greetings, everyone!

The automatic synchronization via the Pagico Cloud ServiceIt’s been two weeks since the official release of Pagico v4 now. How do you guys like it? I hope you’re loving it just as much as we do!

And now, although the Pagico v4 is a rock-solid release, we’re not resting on it. Right now we’re full speed working on the Pagico v4.1, the first minor release of the v4. Like we’ve mentioned before, it’s primary focus is to include the Pagico Cloud Service, plus some minor tweaks and bug-fixes.

So far the development of the Cloud Service has been wonderful: we’re doing some internal tests and the result is fantastic: a very easy-to-use, reliable, secured, and fast Inbox data synchronization feature!

  • It’s easy-to-use because it doesn’t bother you at all — there’s only one button on the UI indicating the sync status. And in most cases, you can just ignore it. It’ll do the sync automatically in the back without needing your attention;
  • It’s reliable because we’ve written a very solid network library (thanks to code ninja Meng!) so that the synchronization is almost bullet-proof: ensuring all the data is intact (checksum verification) after transmission and keeping the UI responsive and informative to the user;
  • It’s secured because we’re using industry strength, 1024-bit RSA encryption to protect all the communications between you and our server;
  • It’s fast because we’re compressing the data to the maximum level (we’re getting an average compression ratio of 10% (read: one tenth of the original amount of data)).

Inbox Synchronization via the Cloud Service in Pagico v4.1

So, as you can see, we’re very excited about it’s capabilities and user experience. Our current job is to keep testing this baby, and create a web interface for it so that our users can manage their accounts and devices. Once this is done, an invitation-based public beta will be conducted, so that a small amount of users can get started try it out, while we’re monitoring and tweaking the servers.

What’s next?

Just stay tuned, folks! We’ll let you know when the first round of the invitations is ready to go! And here’s a little bit information about our short-term roadmap so that you know what to expect:

  • Finalize the Cloud Service structure for Inbox synchronization (Done)
  • Beta test of the Inbox synchronization
  • Web interface of Inbox data (access your Inbox data via browsers)
  • Optimized web interface of Inbox data for mobile devices (blackberries, iPhones, G-phones, etc)
  • Native iPhone application for accessing Inbox data
  • Simple task sharing and task management via the cloud
  • Google calendar (and similar web calendar and scheduling services) synchronization

The iPhone app?!

I know, I know that many of you have mentioned the need of an iPhone app. So as you can see, it’s planned, but it’s going to be implemented after the cloud service is ready and everything else is finalized. And before the native app appears, a web version would do the job. I know just how much you hate web apps, but trust me, we’re gonna do whatever we can do make sure it’s just about as good as native apps.

More about the Cloud service

For now, as a great beginning, we’ll open up the Cloud service just for Inbox data synchronization. That means you can capture and input new information into your inbox anywhere, with or without your Pagico software, and you can work on your Inbox when you have time. But that also means that you won’t be able to access your topics and profiles. The Cloud service system is designed with great extendability, so adding more capabilities to it is a definite in the near future. And for now, we think opening up just the Inbox synchronization is a great balance between the cost for us (it’ll be a FREE service for you! at least for now), functionality of the service, and the ease of use for you (imagine the complexity of the app for navigating among your huge library on your smartphones).

Do you like it??

Let us know!! As usual, we’re open to all comments, ideas and suggestions. So please help us making Pagico the best organizer solution across all platforms!

Cheers,

Ryo ;-)

  1. Dear all,

I am using Pagico now every day, I am also the owner of Daylite and Contactizer. Where the last 2 are in my case partly a replacement for e.g. Entourage, or iCal and Address Book, Pagico is a real addition. It acts different, it shows different and by using Dropbox it is now even automatically synched on more computers.

I am still not so sure yet what the sync service will do additional if there is no iPhone (web)app, please explain a bit more.

    Hans

  2. @Hans,

The Dropbox solution synchronizes all your databases, but not your Inbox. The Cloud service is here to synchronize your data in the Inbox, across your computers.

Plus the upcoming web interface, you’ll be able to work with your inbox data anywhere (e.g. public computers and mobile devices), making the inbox the ideal starting point of your workflow.

Hope that clarifies it a little bit!

    ;-)

  3. I wouldn’t say “rock solid” given that one can only edit lists about 50% of the time if IE8 is installed…

  4. @Tim,

Yeah I am aware of the IE8 issues, and we’re working on it!

Thanks for bringing it up though!

  5. How about an Android app?

But the google cal sync is a great feature!

  6. @Josh,

For now, an Android native app is not planned, as we’re creating a mobile app optimized web app to serve all the mobile platforms at once.

  7. Sweet! You all have some great plans in works!

  8. I have OF but I’m considering getting this complementary. For the online sync, would you guys consider syncing outside of your servers, perhaps syncing via webdav? I know its not rock-solid (the webdav site that I used for awhile died out lately, and I had to switch), but (if and when) I implement webdav on my home server, it would be nice to control where the data is.

  9. @JM,

The online sync will require server-side application. So it can’t support regular webDAV servers. However, it is possible that we might roll out a server version, when the sync feature and collaboration features are mature enough. :-)

  10. Hello Ryo,

Just a question, don’t know if I’m at the right place for this. The schedule synchronizes perfect with iCal. When I check my iPhone, the new calendar is there but no tasks. In iCal I see them in the top. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks a lot, I’m very pleased with Pagico.

  11. Looks great, but please bring out the iPhone app. I need to see all my info in a nice format. I’m tired of the default stuff on the iphone. Plus there are no tasks.

  13. I love this software! I love the ability to use dropbox to sync my databases. Great work. Do you have a specific date when the could service and web service will be available?

  14. How do people like me benefit from this app if we are using a blackberry but carry an ipod touch that doesn’t have wifi ability to use the cloud service?

  15. @Tara,

We’ll roll out a web interface to work with your data in the future. But this will probably have to wait after the iPhone app.

    Thanks!

  16. So, I guess when you get it all finalized you will be charging extra for the service? Hmm… I’ll have to think about that one.

  17. @Indica,
Yes, our plan is to charge a minimal fee for the workspace feature as soon as it’s out of the beta mode. And when that happens, we’ll for sure give everyone enough time to think about whether or not to keep using it (so your workspace won’t just disappear over-night). Although I usually don’t like to make premature promises as our pricing is still not finalized yet, I do want you to know that the cost would be less than other similar solutions.

    Hope this helps!
