Hello folks, I know you guys must have been waiting for the first beta of Pagico 4 for a very long time, and I just wanted to let you guys know that we’re bringing it to you … very soon. Right now we’re trying to sort out the unicode support on Windows, as Windows seems to be using multiple encodings in its file system, not to mention that it’s using different encodings in different localized windows editions. :-(

So right now we’ll keep on trying to figure it out in the upcoming days, and if we still can’t figure out a solution by then, we’ll probably go ahead and release the beta without unicode support on Windows.

And the good thing is, on the other hand the unicode support on Mac OS X and Ubuntu have been very good and very easy to work with.

Therefore, sit tight for couple of more days. The first beta of Pagico 4 is right at the corner.

:)

  1. Damn you Bill Gates! You XP craporama stands between me and the beta!

  2. @Kelvar,

Well, I do have to agree that the unicode implementation on windows is pretty much like workarounds and patch works. So when developing for such systems, we’ll have to come up with patches for these patches, which is really painful. :-|

  3. Once again, the Mac shines with regard to sensibility & usability. If you didn’t support windows, I am sure you would be on version 8 by now :)

  4. @Zozus,

You’re absolutely right. The macs and other *nix systems usually have a very good implementation on this — partly I guess because they don’t have the excess time to create a dedicated version of each of the different languages. On the other hand, some parts of Windows can be dated back to 1980s, and have been patched since then. No wonder wIndows is not bulletproof. :-|

But anyways, this issue is not going to affect our first beta any more — it’s on the way. ;-)
