Pagico — Channels BETA Download

Everything you need to get started with the Channels BETA program.

In most cases, Pagico tries to stay out of your way.

So, how does it work?

An 60-second tutorial to get started with the Channels feature.

Introducing Channels and Invitations.

The concept "Channel" is really similar to "chat room". Within a channel, shared data will be synchronized among particpants.

To join a channel, you'll need an invitation code, which serves as the key and password for a channel. An invitation can only be used once, and by using it, one can only join the designated channel. Channels that you have joined will be displayed under the "Channels" section.

You can join as many channels as you want
See details and settings of a channel

To see details and settings of a channel, go to the "Channels" section, hover your mouse onto one of the channel items in the main area, and click on the "Details" button.

You can also leave the channel by clicking on the "Leave this channel" button. By leaving, all shared data authored by others will be removed from your Pagico database.

Sharing (and un-sharing) data.

Once you have joined a channel, you can starte sharing projects and contact profiles by clicking on the "network" icon located in the right upper area in any project or contact profile. Check the corresponding channel item from the popup menu to share the current object in the channel, and un-checking it means "un-share" the current object.

This is it. Simple enough?

"Owner" vs. "Particpants" vs. "Subscribers"

The first participant to join a channel becomes the owner of the channel. So if you are the boss, be sure to join the channel first. Of course you can set other participants to be owners later down the road, by using the Channel settings section.

The concept is really simple: Owners are able to set channel settings, such as the channel title, and participants roles. On the other hand, participants can not change any channel setting. Owners and participants can all see and make changes to shared data.

Subscriber is a kind of participant that can only see (read-only) the content of a channel. This option is currently unavailable, and they will be for sure down the road.

Special notes for files.

There is a limit on the size of single files, and currently it is 5MB. That means any file larger than 5MB will NOT be included for cloud syncing.

Also, many people like to frequently save when they're working with files (i.e. a Photoshop image, etc). And Pagico is configured to detect changes in file but it will not trigger the cloud sync. When you think it's ready, click on the "Commit Update" button to sync with the cloud.

Lastly, please note that special characters are not supported in file names in Pagico on Windows. This is due to a bug in Windows' filesystem, and we're trying to come up with a workaround.

Large files might not be included in Channel sync. Changes made to files will be synced only when you click this button

Sample uses

The ways of using Channels are endless. Here's just a few to get you started.

Scenario 1: Collaborate on projects or contacts.

Let's say that you and other 2 persons need to stay on the same page with one or more projects or contacts.

1. Join the same channel. To do this, you'll need three invitations.

2. Share the projects. You might want to create a project, or pick an existing project from your Pagico database. Then, get into the project and share it by clicking on the network icon and selecting the correct channel.

Done! The shared projects will magically show up in your partners' Pagico databases, and you guys can start working on the actual work. Repeat step 2 for other projects or contact profiles.

You can easily share projects and contact profiles with your team.

You can use shared contacts to delegate tasks among your team.

Scenario 2: Assigning tasks to teammates.

1. Create a contact profile for your partner (or ask him/her to do this), and share the contact profile in a channel.

2. On your end, create tasks under the shared profile. There are many ways to create tasks. For example, you can use keyboard combination (Command + T on Mac, or Ctrl + T on Windows and Ubuntu) and select the destination of the new task.

Just like others, the tasks created will still be visible in your flowchart under the teammate's name until it is completed. Repeat step 1 for other teammates.

Scenario 3: Create an Inbox for your team

In many cases, your team might need a place to dump all un-processed resources for later use. Or, what you need might be a place to exchange ideas (messaging).

1. Create a project and give it a name (for example, "Team Inbox").

2. Then use this project as an Inbox for your team. To make it easier to access, be sure to add the project to the Quick Access bar (by clicking on the button located in the bottom toolbar area).

Although designed to be very simple, the Channels feature is extremely flexible and adaptive to your workflow.
