Today we’re excited to bring you a beta version of the latest Pagico v4.2 for Windows. In the past few weeks, the Windows versions have been missing from recent updates, where Mac and Ubuntu versions received tons of updates and improvements. That was simply because we were doing some major overhaul on the Windows versions. But don’t worry, Windows users, now you get the chance to enjoy all of the cool stuff!
So, what’s new?
We completely re-built the Windows version (not the entire Pagico codebase, just the Windows wrapper). Although there’s no new feature, you will for sure spot many great improvements.
Greatly improved UI
Now the user interface looks just as good as the Mac version. This is because we’ve switched to WebKit, an all-around much better Web Engine than the original IE7 engine.
Much better performance
The new rendering engine also provides greatly enhanced performance.
No more dependency on IE7
With the switch of the rendering engine, we’re also able to get rid of the dependency on IE7 and the super large .NET library. If you’re looking for a plain English translation, it just means that the installer itself is almost 50% smaller than the original installer. If that indicates anything. 😉
Conclusion & BETA Available
All in all, I’m sure you’ll see a much better user experience. Since it’s a major re-write, we wanted to be very sure that it works in the real world, and the test will take a few weeks. For those that who cannot wait, simply go ahead and download a beta version below for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows:
UPDATE: This is a new package that fixes issues with systems using languages other than English. E.g.: If you tried using the previous installer on a German Windows, it wouldn’t work. Just download this package and install. You don’t have to uninstall the previous version first.
Note: Please note that the r1029 is still in beta and the Print feature is not yet available. Also, although we’ve tested many times, you might (in some rare cases) encounter issues such as Pagico not running properly in some rare cases. If that happens, we ask you to kindly let us know your system configuration so that we can get the problems fixed asap.
