The Channels BETA and Pagico v4.2 r1052

First of all I’d like to give you some updates about the Channels BETA, which was started a few weeks ago. Generally put, we received tons of beta requests and like we promised, we’re slowly opening the gate. At the moment, dozens of users have received invitations and are actively using the Channels feature. The stats from the Channels server seem to be perfectly fine — there has been no problems so far and everything seems to be running just fine. Therefore, we’ll be giving out invitations faster than before. So, if you haven’t done so, just go ahead and sign up for the beta now! Just in case you’re curious about how channels work, we also prepared a 60-second crash course.

Secondly, a new v4.2 release (r1052) is now available for Mac (Intel) and Windows. In this release, there are some minor bug-fixes and one major feature improvement. Here’s the details:

  • Greatly improved support for external links (such as links for DEVONthink, etc)
  • Improved UI transitions and animations
  • In Offline mode, Pagico will not try to sync channels and give out error messages

One of the most important improvements in this release, is the enhanced support for external links with special protocols, such as links for specific items in a different program. They usually uses a URL-style identifier with their own protocol. For example, here’s a link from DEVONthink:

x-devonthink-item://1DFAFDB1-2A2A-4793-A7A8-A04078031C72

Starting from this r1052, Pagico will recognize and convert these kind of URI into clickable links, clicking on which will trigger the corresponding action.

Getting started!

This new release is not required to install by the channels server, since it does not contain any major updates. But if you’re interested, you can feel free to download it from the Channels beta page.

Again, you’re encouraged to sign up for the free beta if you haven’t done so, and let us know your comments!
